Tacoma CampingSetup
My son started this project after building the camper setup for my Silverado dually (see two other videos on my channel). This one was designed with field work in mind. I think he did a great job, and his wife was the envy of her coworkers.

DO NOT STORE PROPANE TANK HORIZONTALLY UNLESS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT ORIENTATION. This camper design was based on various ideas taken from the Internet and some of our own. Thank you Colin Leslie for the great work. Also, thanks to all those that gave us ideas.
Very well done 👍
I don’t exactly love that the water filler is way in the back.👍🏼☮️
Good design and video.👍🏼☮️
I also have been watching camper mod videos and I think this is the nicest build I have seen. At the end I can see an organized corner of extensive tools so I am not surprised by what you can do. Geez, it is nice. The bed must be 8 feet because those tri fold pads are a few inches over 6 feet and you had room to have that open box at the front of the bed. I would like to see it decked out with gear just to put a cherry on top of the whipped cream. Again, wow!
Si, how soon can you do mine? Fantastic job!
Thanks. The builder is remodeling his bathroom and kitchen, so pretty busy. I bet you could do it. Good luck.
Cool 😎 👌 👍
Kick-Ass video where did they get the mattresses from or did they make them
This was my reply four year ago. Mattresses were ordered from this site. We bought 2 twins (39x79) plus 2 grey and white striped covers. www.foambymail.com/custom-foam-mattresses.html

So, you just want to kill everyone huh. I was a propane tech. for ten years. You do understand those tanks are filled according to temp. right? Fill that tank in the cold, then let it heat up and the tank pressure valve will pop off. The question is, what will you be doing when it happens? Driving you think you had a blow out. Sleeping you die from a heart attack. Cooking you blow up. Store that tank outside, or or below the bed. Safety 1st please. Sorry I did not sugar coat it, but I have seen even worse happen.
What did you say about the gas propane horizontal. You're say you can't store it horizontal can you store it straight up and down? Is that what you're saying? And please explain why
First I am not an expert so what I say here is best practices as I understand them. Propane tanks are designed to either operate in the vertical or horizontal orientation, but not both. This applies to storage as well. The tank in the video is the vertical type, therefore it was dangerous to store in the horizontal position. My understanding is that the pressure relief valve must only vent gas and never be in contact with liquid. Remember that propane in your tank is mostly in the liquid phase with vapor (gas) above it. Never try and operate a tank in the wrong orientation. It might be possible for liquid to enter the fuel line and then flash (evaporate quickly) causing a burst of flame. I always used the tank in the vertical orientation, but stored it horizontally. THAT WAS WRONG! I guess I was lucky that nothing bad happened.
@@thedocotrL my question was can propane be stored in a vehicle?
@@donnataliercio7080 Actually that wasn't the question you ask. Please check with your state's DMV or police for an answer.
How can I get some pics about the wheels .
I don't have this rig any longer.
Are there businesses that can install something like that in someone's truck?
Not that I know of. Everything I've seen is basically custom - one off. But maybe another follower might know.
How can i get more detailed plans
Sorry, what you see is the most available.
Your attention to detail shows a nice clean job. What type of carpet are you using for the top? Where did you get it?
That is outdoor carpet, probably purchased at Home Depot.
Beautifully done....very professional. Thanks for posting....more great ideas for my own build
Whoa
Very nice...
Bruh That's BadAss👍🏾👍🏾
Nice setup ...
Fabulous job,one of the best builds so far
Just came across the video this week. This is really great job and we are very impressed with the functionality and the craftsmanship of your work.. My wife and I also have a 6x12 Cargo Trailer we use for multi-use. And have found that the tuck away pockets make a huge difference in making things work well. #BeSafe take care.
hello, I am getting ready to start a build similar to yours since I have the same truck and would like to know how are you preventing the dust from coming in?
Nice work man . I want to do my Chevy Silverado truck bed something like this one one day... Great job.
Flame King has a 20lb tank bottle that is certified for horizontal positioning and you can fill it anywhere just like a regular vertical standing bottle.
Good to know. Thanks.
Nice!
Those teal GSI containers are easy to spot. Larimer County?
Where is the man who build it? We have a truck and love going camping too.
How much will be cost ? I love that idea.
Dude. That’s an awesome build. You must be super happy.
Great job ,one of the best I have seen..
Ian , where can I find the photos mentioned?
Try this link: ihleslie.com/index.php/2015/08/13/camper-platform-project/ NOTE: Do not store tank horizontally unless specifically designed for that orientation!
Would love to see how the mainframe is constructed
“Remuhnent” is not a word.
Sweet set-up! Probably the best craftsmanship of any carpet/camping kit I've seen! Thanks for that..
good job
Ian Leslie, you were my thermodynamics professor at NMSU, my name is Karl Johannes if you remember me! This is an awesome build and I would love to see a video about how it held up or anything that changed over the years, as I’m building a truck bed platform too. Hope you are enjoying retirement!
Karl, I still have access to my old work email.
Thought you weren't supposed to store propane sideways
PLEASE SEE MESSAGE JUST BELOW VIDEO.
This is a nice build.
What racks are on the camper on the tacoma? I just got a camper and want to do a build like this, but also want some racks for a ladder, etc.
David, I don't actually have any racks on the Tacoma at the moment but in the past I've generally used Yakima although I like some of the options from Rhino Rack too.
nice work!
Thanks, I'll let my son know since he gets most of the credit.
so you hide ur plate in the beginning then just drifted off got drunk or something hahahahhaa????????????????????????
Looks Fantastic, Please can you explain what hardware was used for the drawer runners.
Please check out this link: ruclips.net/video/MT3sGNJuTlg/видео.html
Very nice mod on the sliding drawers and bed.the best I’ve seen diy.
Great build!! Propane HAS to be stored for transport VERTICALLY ... otherwise amazing storage and design.. Roof vent would be a good idea. Also a vent to equalize pressure when your driving so it won’t suck DUST... lots of places to vacuum dust!!! Really liked it.. Far more elaborate when I was using my truck to go fishing teen years👍 I’d give it 8.5-10 ( higher if you get propane storage figured out: small bottles and get refill attachments)👍👍
I put a note at the top about the propane tank.
My dream!!!
nice details, well done
Very nicely done. Really custom.
how much will you charge to build mine... love the build..
Glad you like it. Sorry, not in the business, but good luck.
Really nice design. I think this might be the one I go with.
ive been trying to find a similar trunk top for my toyota tacoma 2000 access cab. could anybody tell me how to get something similar?
Go to Leer.com and see if they make a truck cap for your year and bed. You might want to check on Craigslist as well for a used one based on the year of your vehicles.
